ver the years I had heard lots of praise of Dutch cat shows. So I thought that as regular cat shows in the Netherlands are great already, a World Winner show has to be magnificent and it would be a shame to miss it! And so I was absolutely delighted when the opportunity arose again to accompany my friend Ellen to the show. Ellen had entered, just as she did two years ago for the WW show in Vienna, her blue bicolor Ragdoll boy Mickey, though this time as European Champion :-). Unfortunately still no show cat for me, so once more I would attend the show as a spectator only.
his time we made the trip by Ellen's car. After arriving from Munich I just reloaded my bags, and on we went. On the way we picked up Lilo Durand (Purrific Ragdolls), who lives in Ettenheim/Black Forest. She too made the trip as a visitor and had not brought a cat along. Nevertheless, the three of us looked very much forward to our weekend. As Ellen and I live so far away from Lilo, it is a rarity to meet each other, and so we were determined to thoroughly enjoy at least this short time together.
ime was flying with talking and laughing all the way. When we - incl breaks - left the highway after about 8 hours to reach the city of Maastricht, two large balloons appeared in front of us in the sky. One of them had curious peaks on top - ears?? Indeed, when the balloon slightly turned, you could see a nose and a face too - a cat's head! What a nice and fitting welcome :-).
otel-wise we experienced no unpleasant surprises this time, the rooms were all nice and very clean. Ellen is our "booking expert", a real genius. We are time and again happy and grateful when she books for us, always finding ideally placed accommodations as reasonably priced as possible. However, as we all had decided at different times to go to Maastricht and the hotel rates changed enormously during these months - from 98 Euro per night for a double room to 121 Euro (this booked via internet; booked via hotel it would have gone up to 140 Euro shortly before the show...) - poor Ellen was kept quite busy.
nyway, the absolute hit went to Carmen Doswald from Switzerland (Seaport Ragdolls), whom we were to meet on Friday evening at the hotel. Her package "Blue Night-Special/Burgundy Enjoyment" did not only include 2 nights in our hotel for a bargain price, but also 2 x breakfast (which would have cost us 16 Euro each morning), a 3-course menu, and as a highlight a romantic boat tour on the river Maas, a city-guide Maastricht, plus a "Night Cap". Unfortunately, Carmen had no time to make the boat tour and did not claim her "Night Cap" either. So we were at a loss for a while as to what this ominous "Night Cap" might be, until I browsed the internet and found it must be a cocktail. Although, after reading the contents (a mix of white rum, warm milk, and icing sugar), Carmen might have been lucky to miss it :-)))).
dditionally, every hotel guest had to pay 2,17 Euro city tax per day, and a cat in the room or a place in the hotel's own garage respectively cost 10 Euros each p.d.
