was featured in a TV commercial for the current Walt Disney Mickey Mouse magazine. Of course, I just had to find out how this came about. Surprise's mom told me the following story:
"
bout 8 years ago we were contacted by an advertising agency if we would provide some of our dogs for a furniture store ad. The dogs and we had so much fun doing it and it all worked so well that now and again we have requests for our dogs or cats doing advertising for various things. The last one was for the German Postal Service with about 6 dogs of different breeds. It was about how a mail delivery person should react if received first by dogs instead of humans...
n early February we received another, quite urgent call from the agency. For days a TV team had desperately been trying to shoot a commerical with a cat for a new issue of the Mickey Mouse magazine, but the cat wasn't acting in the desired way. Confident as usual, my husband and I plus two of our Ragdolls and a Maine Coon made the trip to the location.
he TV team was not fussy anymore as to what kind of cat was being used, the main thing was to finish the spot. After inspecting the locality and the people around, we decided on our affectionate Surprise. The TV team was enthusiastic: Surprise was totally relaxed and enjoyed the work tremendously. We needed only a fraction of the time for every take which was wasted before. After two and a half hours the spot was completed even though we had rain, snow and it was bitter cold.
he director phoned us two days later to let us know that we could view our cat on TV beginning February 27th 2000. Since the shooting, he has decided that only the Ragdoll will do for him in the future, once he would not have to travel so much anymore."
Now a short explanation of the TV spot:
urprise sits on top of a mail box in the garden, enjoying himself and purring loudly. |
cene change: The cat is focused on by an "agent" through the louvers on a window high above and shot at with an "agent shooter" (a toy supplement in the current magazine). |
urprise quickly leaves the scene, loudly protesting. The mail box opens up and the new magazine presents itself. |
ven though the spot is very short, Surprise presented himself superbly. I only hope that kids take heed of the subtitle to not shoot at animals and people. |
