Woofy on the judging podium in Denver |
"
arisa's Bittersweet Symphony, better known at home as "da Woof" or "Woofy" - she's such a dog, ya know! - has been a joy to show. She will stand on the judging podium for as long as a judge will look at her, only swishing her tail. She is a big, solid (in more ways than one! ;-)) girl that can compete with the boys!
little background: I kept "Woof" because I had kept a bluepoint girl out of Mellie's first litter (different male) but her head type was more like her mom... more
round, not as "wedge-y". Pepper has a wonderful wedge-y head AND a fabulous temperament... something else I needed to improve on. "Woof" just stood out in the litter and she was the only girl, which I wanted.
his girl did well as a kitten in the shows, but then got pyometra as a young adult, losing all of her coat with the prostaglandin treatments (think Sphynx-like!). It took a LONG time for her coat to come back to "normal" and then we had to wait for show coat!
oofy's first "win" was a BEST cat in May of this year, from Pam Barrett. This made her a TICA Champion. Since we were out to make a POINT (with a colorpoint, get it? ;-)) we continued on with her. She got enough points at the May show to Grand, but needed more finals. GRAND came at the Langley BC show, with a final from Ellen Crockett. Double Grand, from Pam Barrett... a BEST LH. At the Denver show Pam made her TRIPLE GRAND with another BEST
AB (over 70 cats competing, 29 Ragdolls), Quadruple Grand came from Vicki
Shields, a BEST AB cat and SUPREME came from Pam again... BEST in the Ragdoll
Congress. BUT we needed a scant 175 more points!!!! We got those points and
more at the SassyKatz show in Oregon in September 2002.

he Denver show was Rick and my "treat". We hadn't been on a holiday for MANY years. My daughter looked after the cats and we took off to the International Ragdoll Congress. We stayed with an old-time friend and former Ragdoll Breeder, Tracey McCullough. I thoroughly enjoyed the seminars put on by Dr. Susan Little and Heather Lorimer. Dr. Susan is a VERY knowledgeable Vet that does lectures that are SO interesting, you won't know where the time went! Meeting other Ragdoll
breeders was fun too... especially since JaNeill Cillesen (Dollhouse Ragdolls) hosted a wonderful barbecue!!
he show was amazing!! I am not usually one to "brag" but I was just beside myself. Marisa's Bittersweet Symphony, our sealpoint girl almost 4 1/2 years old was BEST in the Championship Ragdoll Congress! She had EXCELLENT quality competition... the adult Ragdoll class (28) - to break it down... 2 seal cp girls, 1 bluepoint boy, 1 seal lynx girl, 2 blue lynxpoint boys, 2 seal mitted girls, 4 seal bicolor (3 male, 1 female), 2 blue mitted (1 m, 1 f), 8 blue bicolor (4 m, 4 f), 1 lilac bicolor female (from a Birman outcross...looked
to be true lilac!), 1 red mitted m, 1 blue tortie bicolor f, 1 seal lynx mitted, 1 red lynx mitted f - was generally of the best quality that I've ever seen! Of course there were many fabulous bicolors, both boys AND girls!! but it was great that the solid points did so well. GO SOLID POINTED RAGDOLLS!!!

'd like to mention Dollhouse Adonis of Akatsakat, owned by Tracey McCullough. Adonis
also won BEST, in the Alter congress. Tracey and I would like to publicly thank Linn Currie for her donations of "trophy" and rosettes for the winners of the Congresses. The rosettes are HUGE!!!! and have real porupine quills on the top of them. They are not only gorgeous but unique momentos of a wonderful weekend!! The "trophies" were each unique as well. They are on a fairly large oval wooden base. Each congress winner had a different S. African animal on it. I have an elephant, complete with tusks and Tracey has a water buffalo. I'd also like to thank the Italian breeder that donated the trophy for the best colorpoint in show. Lastly, we also picked up the 3rd best Ragdoll adult in show award. It also has a wood base, with a pretty music box on top that is in the theme of cats. Thanks to ALL the people who worked so hard to make this congress a success!!! I'd especially like to thank the local breeders who saw "Woofy" and her daughter and encouraged me to keep showing these girls. I'd like to thank my hubby and daughter for their support. Without Rick, I wouldn't have gone to Denver... without Adrien, we couldn't have gone (no one to look after the "homestead"!) I'd like to thank Tracey McCullough for graciously allowing us to stay with her in Denver. I'd like to thank ESPECIALLY Pam Barrett, but also ALL of the TICA judges who saw what I do in my girls. It's nice to know that some judges will "look past" the inverted white V! It's nice to know that a 5 year old girl has still "got it"!
oof has had a
few litters, but one kitten "stood out" when I bred her to Marisa's Brewster
(bluepoint male). Marisa's Orchestrated Success is as good as her mom but a little different as far as good points. Woof is a huge big girl, her daughter is a little smaller. I like her daughter's flowing coat better... but maybe Woof's will still come! ;-) Both have really nice body/head types and gorgeous deep blue eyes. Temperament is still developing in "Orca". Woof has such strength of mind... it's amazing!... but for the first 2-3 years, it too was developing.
n the past, I've shown what I thought were "top show" Ragdolls, with varying success. I've been showing in TICA for over 10 years and this is the first Supreme Grand Champion (whole Ragdoll colorpoint female Ragdoll). We can't afford to show much, but I do enjoy it... especially with a cat that LOVES being shown. It's just been very rewarding for us to have this win... it's ALL been very "bittersweet"... and a symphony..."
