orking in NYC, I see many celebrities and work near the NBC studio where Katie Couric, Matt Lauer and Al Roker (my favorite) do their show each morning. When I was working in the Fox (cable network) building - they had just about the same set up where people can look into the window and see the show being broadcasted and sometimes they did the show outside on the plaza in front of the Fox building and had "audience" participation.
ilton had just come into my life and he was just a baby - a sweet bundle of joy! I had taken many pictures of him and like any proud parent - carried them with me wherever I went (I just never knew when someone would ask to see a picture of my baby boy! ;-) ). This one particular morning I was coming onto the plaza to enter the building to go to work - when there was a camera crew outside with Ed McMahon (Johnny Carson's "sidekick" from "The Tonight Show") doing a "live" show on TV for the Fox Network. Someone from the show approached me and asked if I would join in and help out! Ed McMahon would tell people that he would give them $50 if he asked for a certain item and that person could produce the item that was asked for (i.e. keys, pen, emery board, etc.). Ed came over to me and asked me: "Do you have a picture of a baby?" I said: "I have a kitten named Milton". Ed said: "How old is Milton?" I said: "12 weeks old". Ed said: "That's a baaabbbbby! Let me see the picture". I then pulled out the small photo album that I carried with me EVERYWHERE with pictures of Milton in it! I showed a picture of Milton (on camera) to Ed and he handed me $50. That was the quickest $50 bucks I ever made and not a bad way of starting off my work day. When I got into work, my phone rang. It was my girlfriend telling me she just saw me and Milton on TV! Fox even gave me a tape of that segment so I have it to treasure always!
